연구실 소개 및 비전 (About Lab. & Vision)

Our dedicated studies include carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) to mitigate global warming and to pursue the clean use of fossil fuels. Major research interests are applications of gas hydrates to energy and environmental systems with a primary focus on CO₂ capture, CO₂ storage in the CH4 hydrate layer, gas storage and transportation (natural gas and H₂), water treatment, and flow assurance. Gas hydrates are solid inclusion compounds in which gas molecules are trapped within a crystal structure of water and have many useful applications due to their ability to capture specific gas components.
UNIST 청정에너지연구실은 가스 하이드레이트 (gas hydrates)의 에너지 및 환경분야로의 응용에 관한 여러 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 특히, 화석에너지의 청정한 사용과 지구 온난화의 완화를 위하여 이산화탄소 회수 및 저장 (CO₂ Capture and Storage, CCS)과 관련한 여러 연구를 수행하고 있으며, 미래 청정에너지원으로 주목받고 있는 천연가스 하이드레이트의 개발 및 생산과 관련된 연구도 진행하고 있습니다. 또한, 석유/천연가스 생산 및 수송, CO₂ 수송 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 배관 막힘현상을 방지하기 위한 유동안전성 확보 (flow assurance), 그리고, 해수 담수화/수처리와 관련한 연구도 진행 중입니다.

Prof. Yongwon Seo received his Ph.D. from KAIST in 2003 under the direction of Professor Huen Lee. After undertaking postdoctoral studies in KAIST, Japan (2003-2004) and working in Korea Institute of Energy Research (2004-2006) and in Changwon National University (2006-2012), he is currently working in Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) as a professor. His research interests include thermodynamic and physicochemical analyses of gas hydrates and their applications to energy and environmental fields especially focusing on carbon dioxide capture and storage.
